The team from the tiny Caribbean island managed to get past the first round of CONCACAF qualifying for South Africa 2010 before tumbling out in the next round. Struggling past lowly Turks and Caicos, the Lucians' next test was an unenviable one, up against Central American powers Guatemala.

Four goals from Carlos Ruiz pointed to the end of the road for St Lucia, as the Guatemalans roared to a 6-0 win in the first leg on home soil. The second leg produced a slightly more respectable scoreline for the Caribbean side, but still left them heading for home after a 3-1 loss (9-1 aggregate).
