The British Virgin Islands have been whipping boys in CONCACAF since establishing their FA in 1974. In the first round of qualifying for South Africa 2010 they again went out of the competition, but this time they went down swinging and without having lost a game.

Drawn against the heavily fancied Bahamas, BVI needed to play both legs of their first round series on the road in Nassau due to a lack of proper facilities. They earned a 1-1 draw in the first leg and a 2-2 draw in the second. However, the second leg was technically considered an away game for the Bahamians and, as a result, BVI went out on the road-goal rule.

Though disappointed by their lack of luck and slender loss, the Virgin Islanders can take solace in their brave fight and bring justifiable confidence into qualifying for Brazil 2014.
