The powerful central defender was a key figure in Honduras’s successful push for qualification to the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™. Though his fortunes dipped after the campaign was over, Chavez seems to be back on top form and is ready to do his bit as Los Catrachos prepare to take on the world's best.

Chavez’s first lined up for local club side Platense, where he soon made a name for himself as an authoritative centre-half, marshalling the defence with aplomb. An international call-up followed, as did a loan move to domestic powers Motagua, at the end of which he returned to Platense.

After helping La H reach the world finals for only the second time in their history, Chavez terminated his contract with his club in search of a move abroad. Failing to find employment, he went several months without playing, putting his chances of making the Honduras squad in real jeopardy.

Finally making his peace with Platense, the 25-year-old Chavez is back in action again and readying himself for the biggest test of his career at South Africa 2010.
