A talented right-sided midfielder, Oscar Garcia was destined to be a footballer. After all, not everyone has ‘Boniek’ for a middle name, which was given to him by his parents in honour of the legendary Poland and Juventus star.

Recognised as one of the most consistent performers in the Honduran league, Garcia is also a regular inclusion on Reinaldo Rueda’s squad lists. It was his fine form for Olimpia, the club where he started out and has remained ever since, that opened the door to the national side. Called up for the first time in 2005, he has collected over 40 caps for his country.

In the meantime he had trials with Paris St Germain and Wigan, and though he came close to reaching an agreement with the English Premier League side, he eventually went back to Los Leones.

The 23-year-old recently underwent a hernia operation but regained full fitness in time for South Africa 2010, where he is hoping to impress the watching world with his pace, intelligence and ample skill.
