Up-and-coming shotstopper Christopher Toselli impressed the footballing world at the FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007, going 492 minutes without conceding a goal to beat a record set by Brazilian custodian Claudio Taffarel in 1985 by eight minutes. His performances were key in Chile finishing third at the global showpiece, where he was voted the tournament’s best goalkeeper.
A product of the Universidad Catolica youth system, ‘Hulk’ made his first-division bow for the club at 19 in 2007. Blessed with a fine positional sense and lightning reflexes, Toselli earned the faith of Chile’s senior coach Marcelo Bielsa with his displays in his country’s victory at the Toulon International Youth Tournament in 2009.
Though Toselli is a regular in Bielsa’s squads, he made no appearances in La Roja’s successful 2010 FIFA World Cup™ qualifying campaign. “I know that I’ve got a big future, and that I’ve got two great keepers ahead of me in Claudio Bravo and Miguel Pinto. This’ll be my first World Cup at senior level, but not my last,” said the confident youngster, who occupies Chile’s third-keeper berth.
