Cyprus kickstarted their FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with a 1-0 win at home to Iceland, with Konstantinos Makridis scoring the winner in the second half.
Iceland held Cyprus to a 0-0 draw, as Chryssis Michael had a penalty attempt saved and Konstantinos Makridis struck the post, blowing the Cyprus's chance at a first win in UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying.
