Although Hassan Yebda was part of the French national team that won the FIFA U-17 World Cup title in 2001, he chose to represent Algeria on the senior level. With only nine appearances as part of Les Fennecs, the 26-year-old midfielder made his debut last September in a FIFA World Cup™ qualifier against Rwanda. He also participated in the infamous play-off against Egypt which witnessed Algeria qualify to the FIFA World Cup after a 24-year absence.
Subsequently Yebda became a key player on the Algerian squad and was recalled for the CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Angola earlier this year, where he started all games. On the club level, he is currently on loan from Benfica to British side Portsmouth who were relegated this year.
