The stunning beaches of Rio de Janeiro became even more attractive as Brazil welcomed the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola. A Cidade Maravilhosa (The Wonderful City) was the first stop on the Tour’s journey across South America.
Arriving at the Copacabana Fort, a media frenzy gripped the auditorium as the legendary Pele showcased the Trophy he won three times during an exceptional playing career.
“There are certain things in life that cannot be explained but when a sportsperson touches a trophy, it’s pure emotion,” said O Rei. “I hope that the captain of the Brazilian national team lifts this trophy in South Africa.”
The excitement was palpable as dignitaries, sporting heroes and fans alike marvelled at the Trophy and took opportunities to take precious souvenir photographs alongside the magnificent piece of art.
Thereafter, the Tour headed for Sao Paulo, where it was embraced by Mexico 1970-winning captain Carlos Alberto and fellow members of ‘The Beautiful Team’, Felix, Clodoaldo, Edu and Rivelino.
The FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola will travel 83 countries in 225 days, covering 138,902 kilometers in the process, before arriving in South Africa ahead of the 19th edition of the FIFA World Cup.
