Polokwane is situated at the centre of the Limpopo Province and is surrounded by three of South Africa’s neighbours: Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. This is the land of the upside down tree known as the ‘Baobab’, which is the biggest tree in Africa. Polokwane, which means “place of safety”, was previously known as Pietersburg, and is the cultural and economic hub of the province.
The Polokwane FIFA Fan Fest™ will be held at the city’s 107 year old Cricket Club. Situated a short distance from the new Peter Mokaba Stadium, the vast fields of the cricket club will provide a venue with a capacity of approximately 30,000 spectators. Within the FIFA Fan Fest™, fans will be able to sample traditional African dishes in the food and beverage areas, or drink beer at the Beer Tent onsite. While sampling the options available, fans will be treated to varied entertainment on the giant stage, perfectly complemented by the world-class sound and light system.
Polokwane will offer both seating and standing options, with great views of the giant screens. Hospitality packages will also be available for those visitors who wish to enjoy a more exclusive viewing experience.
With all the above activities in one location, the Polokwane FIFA Fan Fest™ will be a “must visit” event for both residents and visiting fans during the 2010 FIFA World Cup™.
