Japan's first-choice goalkeeper Seigo Narazaki will almost certainly be ruled out for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ qualifier against Qatar due to a leg injury, according to his J.League club Nagoya Grampus.
The 32-year-old injured his left ankle in training at the club's training ground on Thursday, Nagoya Grampus said in a statement.
The injury requires "two-to-three weeks" of treatment, the statement said, meaning that Narazaki will not fully recover for the qualifier in Doha on 19 November.
Japan coach Takeshi Okada picked three goalkeepers: Narazaki, former Portsmouth reserve Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi, who is now with Jubilo Iwata, and Kawasaki Frontale's Eiji Kawashima, for his 25-strong squad for the Qatar match.
Okada has kept former No1 Kawaguchi on the bench since his positioning error saw Japan slip to a 1-0 away defeat to Bahrain iin a qualifier last March.
