Burley implied as much after Boyd, angered by his lack of playing opportunities, announced he would not be available to the national team as long as the current manager remains in charge. Boyd said: "I think I've shown before that I've got the passion needed to play for my country so I think that comment was a bit below the belt."
The 25-year-old forward quit after being left on the bench throughout Scotland's goalless draw with Norway on Saturday. He added: "It was a decision
" I'm not going to get into a war of words with anybody. I said what I felt like saying at the time and so has George."
Boyd's Rangers team-mate Lee McCulloch retired from international football last month although he has insisted his decision was taken for family reasons and played down suggestions he had also become estranged from Burley.
