Uruguay's charge towards a place at South Africa 2010 stuttered when they were held to a 0-0 draw by Ecuador on Wednesday evening. Ecuador remained three points behind their opponents.
Uruguay may have failed to make it three victories in succession, but they can take encouragement from a third straight clean sheet. The two-time FIFA World Cup winners will resume their bid to reach South Africa 2010 in Argentina on 11 October. Meantime, Ecuador will host Chile.
