Frenchman Roger Lemerre is set to take over from compatriot
Henri Michel as coach of Morocco, the Moroccan Football Federation
announced on Tuesday. The former France coach will assume the reins
on 1 July, with his main task being to qualify Morocco for the 2010
FIFA World Cup South Africa™.
The widely-travelled Lemerre was in charge of Morocco's
north African neighbours Tunisia at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations
Ghana 2008 at the start of the year, but he was sacked after his
side lost in the quarter-finals.
He led France to the UEFA EURO 2008 title and had been in charge
of the Tunisian team since 2002, winning the continental crown in
2004.
Michel was also dismissed following Ghana 2008, having failed
to steer Morocco beyond the first phase.
