Joachim Low, Germany (Coach):
"It's an interesting group. Russia are the
strongest opponents on paper but Finland came very close to
qualifying for EURO 2008 and we know Wales must be respected too.
With all respect to the other teams, our aim has got to be to
finish first and qualify for the World Cup directly."
Oliver Bierhoff, Germany (Team Manager):
"We're pleased with the group. We've
been handed a good line-up. Our interpretation is that the top
seeds are expected to win the group. Russia are definitely tough
opponents, but we mustn't underestimate Finland either. I
played against the Finns often enough, they're very robust.
Another important factor is that we're taking on two renowned
coaches, Guus Hiddink with Russia and Roy Hodgson for the Finns.
Despite last week's goalless draw with Wales we'll be
favourites against them, as we will be against the other teams in
the group, although we're obviously aware you mustn't
underestimate any opponents."
John Toshack, Wales (Coach):
"It's a really tough draw, we knew it
would be, and it will be interesting going back to Germany so soon
after facing them in the EUROs. But this is such a young team we
have that we should be looking to improve with every qualifying
competition. I do think there's talent there and hopefully
people can see we're going in the right direction."
