Hertha's relegation to the 2.Bundesliga last season meant Friedrich became available and Wolfsburg were quick to make their move ahead of a number of clubs across Europe, who were alerted by his fine performances at the FIFA World Cup™.
"We are glad that Arne has decided to join us and that this issue has now been dealt with," said Wolfsburg's managing director Dieter Hoeness.
"He is currently proving his class with the national team. Arne will not only do our team good since he is an experienced and strong-performing player, but also with his personality. He will certainly help us to stabilise our defence."
