Diego Maradona's Argentina only secured their ticket to this year's FIFA World Cup™ finals in the 85th minute of their final qualifying game.
Maradona was widely criticised for his handling of the campaign, during which the South Americans used a staggering 70 players.
They collected just 28 points from their 18 games, but narrow wins against Peru and Uruguay in their final two fixtures saw them over the line. Defeat in Uruguay would have consigned them to a play-off, but Huracan midfielder Mario Bolatti, winning just his third cap, fired home a late winner.
After the match, Maradona unleashed a foul-mouthed tirade at the media and was subsequently fined and banned from "any football-related activity" for two months by FIFA.
