Francisco Varallo still remembers playing in the first FIFA World Cup final in 1930 when Uruguay beat Argentina 4-2. He celebrated his 100th birthday last month and is the only living player from that momentous match.

The player nicknamed Canoncito (The Little Cannon) saw his team beaten but it is a personal matter which lives longest in the memory.

Varallo still harbours a grudge against fellow striker Guillermo Stabile as he contends the second goal in the final should have been his. "Stabile pushed me out of the way and scored. I was furious." he recently told FIFA.com
