The announcement of Yingli Green Energy as a 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ sponsor was today described by FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter as a “historical moment”. The agreement signals the first-ever Chinese company to sign as a global sponsor of football’s flagship tournament, while highlighting the growing importance of establishing partnerships with companies who are committed to making a difference to the environment.
The FIFA World Cup sponsorship provides Yingli with the perfect platform to promote their corporate message, with the eyes of the world set to turn to South Africa from 11 June to 11 July. Yingli’s positioning as a global leader in solar energy also brings significant additional value to the agreement, with the company already committed to providing solar panels for the ‘20 Centres for 2010’, FIFA’s Official Campaign for South Africa 2010.

Jérôme Valcke, Secretary General of FIFA, expressed his enthusiasm concerning the deal, stating that FIFA “are looking forward to sharing ideas on how to go about making the world greener and cleaner through the love of football”.
China PR’s booming economy and growing enthusiasm for football makes it an extremely important market for FIFA, with the Yingli deal set to strengthen FIFA’s presence in the Chinese market.
Mr Liansheng Miao, Chairman and CEO of Yingli Green Energy, echoed FIFA’s excitement: “We are excited to be joining other world-class brands as a sponsor of the FIFA World Cup. This sponsorship links Yingli Green Energy to the world’s most popular and passionately followed sport”.
The sponsorship was announced in a signing ceremony held today in Beijing.
