Assou-Ekotto missed the last match against Austria on 12 August, with new coach Paul LeGuen refusing to divulge the reasons for his absence. But his return to the squad indicates Assou-Ekotto's failure to pitch for the friendly in Salzburg did not damage his chance of continuing his international career. He joins his Tottenham Hotspur team-mate Sébastien Bassong, set for his second cap after debuting in the 2-0 win over Austria.
Bassong is likely to keep long-standing Cameroon captain Rigobert Song, winner of more than 100 caps for his country, on the bench for the key Group A qualifiers in Libreville on 5 September and Yaounde on 9 September.
The Libreville match was postponed from June after the death of Gabon's president Omar Bongo.
