Bolivia coach Erwin Sanchez has added Christian Vargas to his squad for their upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ qualifiers against Venezuela and Chile. The Blooming defender was called up after injuries ruled out Real Potosi's Luis Gatty Ribeiro and San Jose's Enrique Parada.
"It's a pity but the national team has to have a replacement. That's the reason why coach Erwin Sanchez decided to call up Vargas, who has already trained with the team," said national team co-ordinator Carlos Aragones.
Bolivia, who trounced Argentina 6-1 at the Estadio Hernando Siles in La Paz in April, begin training on Monday ahead of Saturday's match against Venezuela at the same venue. They will then travel to Santiago to face Chile four days later.
Bolivia lie second from last in the ten-team South American qualifying group, having won only three of 12 matches so far.
