Remarkably, it offers the first opportunity for these fellow strikers to play together in the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers after Mido missed all but five minutes of the first round group fixtures last year. Injury prevented the former Middlesbrough striker from playing in the majority of the qualifiers, save for a fleeting cameo appearance towards the end of the vital 1-0 away win in Congo DR that ensured their progress to the final stage.
At club level, Mido and Zaki have been together at Wigan since January, but have only started one game as a striker pairing; against Liverpool two months ago, when Mido scored on debut. Injury has hampered the pair since but Egypt are hoping both will be fit enough to make a telling impact in this vital Group E showdown with Gambia.
Egypt coach Hassan Shehata has also named two newcomers in his squad: centre-half Ahmed Said, better known as Ouka, and fullback Mohsen Hendawi.
