Ricki Herbert, New Zealand coach
It's terrific. Over the last five years, I’ve never stopped believing in this team. Playing at a World Cup was a dream come true, but this is even better. We came to South Africa with the intention of making a difference, and we certainly did that against a highly-rated team. We’re very, very proud. You would have to say this is our best-ever result. We’ve never picked up a point in a World Cup before. We've thrown some really good punches today and I thought it was an extremely well-deserved result.
Vladimir Weiss, Slovakia coach
That's a minor sporting tragedy for us. We were the better team throughout the match. It's incredibly frustrating, the way we failed to take our chances and then conceded a last-minute equaliser. But it’s simple: we let our opponents play far too much football, although I don’t want to start debating the quality in my team just at the moment.
Rory Fallon, New Zealand striker
This is a wonderful, magnificent moment for football in New Zealand. We never stopped believing in ourselves, even with only ten minutes to go. We missed a great chance, but we knew we’d get another before the end. It's unbelievable, and I think football now has a decent chance of becoming the most popular sport back home.
Robert Vittek, Slovakia striker and Budweiser Man of the Match
I’m delighted about scoring, but I’m obviously extremely disappointed too, because we were so close to winning. I think we deserved all three points. We’ve put ourselves in an extremely difficult position, but we need to forget about the points we’ve dropped today and simply move on.
Ryan Nelsen, New Zealand captain
We managed to create a few chances. I was very disappointed about going a goal down, but when our chance came along, we took it. It's a special moment for the nation and a terrific feeling.
Vladimir Weiss, Slovakia midfielder
We’re obviously gutted. Winning would have been the perfect start, but conceding a goal in the last minute has changed everything. But these things happen in football. We have no option but to take the positives out of the game. Obviously, we have to work hard on tightening things up defensively at the end.
