Although lacking the global appeal of Johannesburg, Cape Town or Durban, you will discover that there is more than meets the eye to Polokwane, situated in the Limpopo Province. It is a great place to relax while enjoying the best that nature has to offer, and a great base from which to explore other African countries, such as Botswana and Zimbabwe.
In the morning, you can make your way to the city centre to some of the malls in the main Thabo Mbeki Street and get some breakfast. Afterwards, visit the calm Lake Fundudzi and the Thathe Vondo Forest. Thathe is an indigenous forest which is sacred to the Venda people. Take a drive north of the town to the rural villages nearby to experience the Venda culture. As night-time reckons, make your way down to the Meropa Casino and Entertainment World which is situated only five kilometres away from the city.
The second day should be about exploring and experiencing new things. Go to the city centre to some restaurants there where you will be spoiled with a variety of choices in some magnificent eating places. Afterwards, spend some time shopping. As midday approaches, it's time to get out of town and embark on a journey of exploration and adventure.
A must see place is the Ndebele Village. Once you are there, spend sometime with them and learn more about their fascinating culture and customs. Enjoy lunch in the village. As evening dawns, make your way to the Jembe Tavern for an opportunity to mingle with locals and learn more about this place. And, while you are there - dance till sunrise!
