TSG analysis by Jozef VENGLOS (SVK)
The Final was a very tight game between two excellent teams. It was a real tactical contest and the key to the match was without doubt the duel between Andrea Pirlo and Zinedine Zidane.

When one attacked the other marked him, and vice versa. Their personal rivalry was the result of excellent decision-making from both the coaches, who also made very good substitutions. In the end, though, that was not enough.

France tried to impose their own style of play, made up of passes and quick interplay. Meanwhile, Italy were not content with just defending well, and they attempted to get the ball out of defence cleanly and race forward with it. Either team could have won but instead we got a penalty shoot-out, which always leaves a big question mark.
