Carlos Gamarra's misplaced header against England yesterday, , timed at three minutes, was the quickest own goal in FIFA World Cup history.
The previous fastest was scored by Yugoslavia's Ivan Horvat, who netted an own goal in the 9th minute against Germany FR in 1954.
England have twice benefited from own goals in the competition, the first was scored for them by Josef Barmos of Czechoslovakia in 1982. But Italy have benefited most of all four FIFA World Cup own goals have worked to their advantage.
