Victory leapfrog Adelaide to top of A-League

Melbourne Victory dislodged Adelaide United from the top of Australia's A-League standings with a 1-0 win on Tuesday.

Melbourne opened a two-point break at the top with the winner coming from former Queen's Park Rangers midfielder Nick Ward's header in the 58th minute before more than 27,000 fans at Docklands stadium.

Adelaide, who played in last month's FIFA Club World Cup in Japan, can retrieve the competition lead with their game in hand against Queensland Roar ahead of next month's top four play-offs.
