Fred wants out of Lyon

Lyon's Brazil international striker Fred has told club president Jean-Michel Aulas to terminate his contract which runs till June next year, the player told French radio on Thursday.

Fred, who has had several injuries during the past year, said he wanted to leave the seven-time French league champions because of lack of first team action. "As I am not playing, I asked the president to terminate my contract," Fred told the RTL radio station. "My aim is to play in the 2010 World Cup. At club level I want to play, to score goals and I think that is difficult here at Lyon.

"When I come on with 20 to 15 minutes to go, that is not enough time to express myself at 100 per cent, and I cannot give my all. Because of that I want to leave."

Fred said he had already told Aulas and Lyon coach Claude Puel that he would not be extending his contract. "Even if I got very good terms financially, money is not everything in life and I need to play football, which gives me so much pleasure."

Though Fred has no concrete plans for the future, he expressed a wish to play in Brazil. "At the moment, I am thinking of returning to Brazil, to stay there for six months or perhaps a year," Fred added.
