Manchester City manager Mark Hughes has admitted Zimbabwe striker Benjani Mwaruwari could be out of action for "a number of weeks" because of a hamstring problem.
The former Portsmouth forward was replaced at half-time during Saturday's 1-0 home defeat by Everton in the Premier League. "We're a little bit light on numbers at the moment," Hughes told City's official website.
"A number of the guys are carrying injuries, so that will have an impact, and that's difficult when you've got games coming up thick and fast; you have to have a fit and able squad. At the moment we're just struggling a little bit in that respect.
"We've lost Benjani again at the weekend with a hamstring and he'll probably be out for a number of weeks. We're a bit threadbare."
City, despite the backing of their wealthy Abu Dhabi consortium owners, are only currently above the relegation zone on goal difference.
However, they are widely expected to spend heavily during the January transfer window.
