Valencia and Helguera part ways

Valencia and defender Ivan Helguera have reached an agreement to end the contract that was due to run until 2010, the club has announced.

The former Real Madrid player has fallen out with Valencia coach Unai Emery, who is reportedly unhappy with the defender's application in training, and has only been used once this season in the Spanish league.

The 33-year-old international arrived in Valencia, currently in third place in the Spanish league, in 2007 from Real, where he spent the bulk of his career.

He has scored three times in 47 appearances for the Spain's nation team. He last played for Spain in September 2004.

Helguera is the second player Valencia have released this week after German keeper Timo Hildebrand, who signed with Hoffenheim.
