Schweinsteiger signs new Bayern deal

Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has signed a three-year extension to his Bayern Munich contract which will keep him at the Bavarian giants until 2012.

According to German sports agency SID, Schweinsteiger has put pen to paper for Jurgen Klinsmann's side, who play Lyon in the UEFA Champions League tonight.

The 24-year-old was due to be out of contract next summer which had sparked interest from a host of European clubs including Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

But with 62 caps and 17 goals for his country, Schweini has been at Bayern since 1998 and is a firm favourite at the Allianz Arena having won both the German Cup and the Bundesliga four times.
