Africa Sports clinch Ivorian title

Africa Sports retained the Côte d'Ivoire league championship by one point at the weekend after a thrilling title race with arch Abidjan rivals ASEC Mimosas.

The defending champions triumphed 3-1 at relegated RC Daloa to finish a 30-match schedule on 52 points, one more than ASEC, who won 2-0 against lowly Entente Bingerville.

Both clubs qualify for 2009 CAF Champions League while third-placed SO Armee go into the second-tier African Confederation Cup with the Ivorian Cup winners.

AS Douane scored six minutes from full-time to edge Casa Sports 2-1 in a Dakar play-off to decide the Senegal title and both clubs will also enter the Champions League draw in Cairo next month.
