Scholes out for six to eight weeks

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said that Paul Scholes would be out of action for six to eight weeks after suffering medial ligament damage in United's UEFA Champions League encounter with AaB Aalborg.

United are already without Michael Carrick, who will not be back for at least another month after breaking a bone in his foot in the 2-1 defeat at Liverpool on 13 September.

To add to United's problems in midfield, Owen Hargreaves appears to have suffered a recurrence of the knee problems which have dogged him since he arrived at Old Trafford last year, and was unable to make the trip to Denmark.
