Henry takes France armband

Thierry Henry has been named the captain of France by Raymond Domenech. The Les Bleus coach did not reveal whether the Barcelona forward would hold the position on an interim or a full-time basis.

France play Sweden in a friendly in Gothenburg on Wednesday. "As he (Henry) is here, and Pat (Patrick Vieira, injured) isn't, Thierry has all the qualities and skills to be captain, but in the future that remains to be seen," said Domenech.

When Vieira was not available in the past, Lilian Thuram took the armband. However, earlier this month the defender announced his retirement.

Arsenal defender William Gallas was named vice-captain. Gallas and Henry were both born on the same day - 17 August 1977.
