Sagnol suffers injury setback

Bayern Munich's France international Willy Sagnol will miss the start of the Bundesliga season after the defending champions revealed he had surgery for an achilles tendon injury on Monday.

The 31-year-old, who has won more than 50 caps and was part of his country's UEFA EURO 2008 squad, will miss the first few months of the season, according to Bayern.

The latest injury setback is bad news for the right-back who fought his way back to fitness in March after a knee injury in April 2007 only to suffer a back injury at the end of last season.

Bayern, under new coach Jurgen Klinsmann, begin their season against Hamburg at Munich's Allianz Arena on 15 August.
