Star-studded friendly for Iraq

Iraq's national football team will face a line-up of some of Europe's top players in a friendly scheduled for October 6 in Rome, the chief of the Iraqi football federation said on Monday.

"This match, organised by an Italian humanitarian association, will pit our national team against the stars of European football, including Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo and AC Milan's Brazilian Kaka," said Hussein Said.

"The revenue will go to orphans in Iraq and the children of our country suffering from incurable diseases." In football-mad Iraq, the national team is the pride of the troubled country after last year's first-ever victory in the AFC Asian Cup.
