Ecuador striker Edmundo Zura was today announced as Newcastle Jets' major signing ahead of this month's A-League kick-off.

The 25-year-old, who has made seven appearances for his country, will finalise his one-year deal with the reigning Australian champions after undergoing a medical.

He replaces Brazilian Mario Jardel as the club's major star, and is the fifth South American to be signed by the Jets since the A-League's inception three years ago.

Elsewhere, Queensland Roar have signed former Glasgow Rangers and Dundee United midfielder Charlie Miller on a two-year deal.

The 32-year-old earned his only international cap for Scotland in 2001, and scored 21 goals in 74 appearances for Norwegian club Brann between 2004 and 2006.

"I'm 32 and I still want to win myself. I like to win trophies and I think we've got a great bunch of boys here," Miller said.
