Brazil's Amaral signs with Perth Glory

Former Brazilian international midfielder Amaral has signed with Australian A-League club Perth Glory for next season, the club said Sunday.

Amaral, who played 31 times for Brazil between 1995 and 1996, brings a wealth of playing experience to the West Australian club having played with Brazilian giants Palmeiras and Corinthians, Portugal's Benfica and Italian Serie A outfits Parma and Fiorentina.

The defensive midfielder, who won a bronze medal playing for Brazil at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, recently joined Perth Glory on their pre-season tour of Indonesia and made a positive impression on coach Dave Mitchell.

"Amaral is a wonderful footballer, he's the type of player we've been missing in the last couple of seasons," Mitchell said in a statement. "His interplay with the rest of the team after just a short time is outstanding and all the lads have taken to him straight away and can see that he is a special player.

"He will be a terrific addition to the squad and Glory fans will definitely enjoy watching him play."

The Brazilian joins Glory's other international recruits including Argentine attacking midfielder Adrian Trinidad, Côte d'Ivoire striker Eugene Dadi and Australian goalkeeper Frank Juric, who is returning home after a decade in the German Bundesliga.
