Chinese international Sun Xiang has signed a one-year renewable contract with Austria Vienna, the Austrian First Division side announced on its website.
The 26-year-old defender from Chinese top flight club Shanghai Shenhua will become the first Chinese to play in the Austrian Bundesliga.
Sun, who also spent a short time on loan with Dutch club PSV Eindhoven in 2007, has 27 international caps and has scored four goals with the Chinese national team, including the winning goal in the 1-0 victory over Australia in a FIFA World Cup™ qualifier on 26 June.
Sun was expected to arrive Thursday in Vienna, where he will undergo a fitness test.
Austria Vienna, who finished third in the first division last season, have said they have plans to sign more players, including a striker, before the start of new season which kicks off on 8 July.
