Guatemala under-20 national coach Rodrigo Kenton has replaced sacked Hernan Medford at the reins of Costa Rica, Kenton told a local radio station on Sunday. Medford, who was capped 89 times for the Central American country, was fired on Friday after Costa Rica went 12 games without a victory.

Despite that poor run of form, a two-leg win against Grenada early this month saw Costa Rica go through to the next round of qualification for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™.

Kenton, 53, has already been in charge of the side during FIFA World Cup qualifying in 1990 and 2002.

Costa Rica have qualified for the FIFA World Cup on three occasions and reached the second round of the 1990 finals in Italy.
