Mokoena becomes most capped South African

Captain Aaron Mokoena won a record 75th cap for South Africa in a 2010 FIFA World Cup™-CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Nigeria here Sunday.

The Blackburn Rovers defender-cum-midfielder, who made his international debut eight years ago at the age of 18, overtook former Charlton Athletic striker Shaun Bartlett.

There was a brief silence before the kick-off at a half-full National Stadium in the Nigerian capital in memory of those who died in xenophobic attacks around South Africa last month.
