Users impressed by Argentina

Top spot in the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking changed hands no fewer than six times in 2007, but the front runners at the turn of the year were Argentina, who had never previously topped the standings at the end of December. That achievement goes a long way towards explaining why users named the Albiceleste as their team of 2007.

In our latest poll, we asked you to evaluate the top five in the current World Ranking and vote for the national team which impressed you the most over the course of the year. Argentina attracted 30.37 per cent of the votes to finish ahead of Brazil on 26.74 per cent. FIFA World Cup™ holders Italy finished third on 19.13 per cent, followed by Germany (13.71) and Spain (10.05).

Turning to the different language editions of, the Argentinians claimed top spot in two of the four versions, the Spanish (35.60) and French (38.29) sites. Brazil took the honours among English speakers with 29.46 per cent, a wafer-thin 0.58 per cent ahead of the Gauchos, while German-speaking users backed Joachim Low and his men to the tune of 47.16 per cent.

Excitement aplenty in 2008
The potential for change at the top of the rankings appears high in 2008. Qualifying for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa swings into gear, and continental crowns are up for grabs at UEFA EURO 2008 in Austria and Switzerland, and at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Ghana 2008.
