Quintet causes diversity

The festive period on FIFA.com witnessed no fewer than five Have Your Say topics, with each piece enjoying over 150 published comments on average. Although each of the items for discussion had obvious favourites among FIFA.com users, there were no clear winners, as fans from every continent had differing opinions.

Saturday 22 December saw the first question introduced, namely, 'Who has the most attractive kit?' Although Barcelona and AC Milan were mentioned by many, one club team's strip had an impressive following of its own. "I think Fenerbahçe, the newcomers of 'big time' European Football, has the most graceful kit," said MarcoFeldy from the US. "The yellow stripes on white fit very well with their new Brazilian style [of play]. Hope they go further in CL and we get to watch them more."

As ever, the Argentinians and Brazilians were battling it out, debating which kit was the more iconic, but rafaelcgp put forward an impressive case on why his team, Botafogo, has the most attractive kit. "It's a historic kit with a wonderful black and white combination, and a fantastic shield: black with a lone white star in the centre. The club with the greatest history in brazil gave a lot of players to the Selecao, including Garrincha, Nilton Santos and Jairzinho."

On Christmas Eve, users were given the topic: 'Who scored the Goal of the Year?' This led to some confusion. Although Lionel Messi's Maradona-esque effort against Getafe was heralded by many as the 2007's greatest goal, FIFA.com was looking for the crème de la crème of the strikes during the year's FIFA tournaments. Once again, it came down to a battle between Argentina and Brazil: Kaka's goal against Boca Juniors in Japan and Sergio Aguero's goal against Poland in the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Out of all the comments, arguably slaurindo's was the most sporting: "Sergio Aguero's goal for sure was the most beautiful. But I choose Kaka's because of it's importance giving AC Milan the glory in the 2007 FIFA Club World Cup and also as a recognition for his conquests achieved in this year."

Wonderful recollections from a memorable year
The topic entitled 'What is your best memory of 2007' produced a multitude of diverse responses, some of which highlighted the power of football, not only to stir passions, but also to bring peace.

"I would have to say when Iraq won the Asian Cup. Not every day do you see a country united over a simple game of football," posted Iraqipride49. "For me it has to be Walter Smith and Alex McLeish re-invigorating Scottish football after the dark Berti Vogts era," wrote Sauzee62. "James McFadden's goal in Paris was the single greatest moment of my life and I hope he can recreate similar things in the World Cup Qualifiers next year!"

Football can unite and also bring about the greatest moment in a person's life - it's quite incredible really.

The next question was a simple one: 'Who will be the stars of 2008?' Summing up everyone's thoughts, Julio4 from the Netherlands, wrote: "Rafael van der Vaart (HSV), Wesley Sneijder & Ruud van Nistelrooy (Real Madrid), Benzema (Lyon), Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Ajax), Jonathan de Guzman (Feyenoord), Messi, Bojan, Dos Santos (Barcelona), Kaka & Pato (AC Milan), Chivu, Maxwell & Ibrahimovic (Internazionale), Alex & Terry (Chelsea), Cristiano Ronaldo (Man Utd), Fabregas & Robin van Persie (Arsenal)."

That says it all really!

And finally, in response to 'Who would be your ideal signing?', fans of the big clubs were licking their lips at the prospect of some of the world's biggest names turning out for their clubs. Facemelter from Canada is dreaming of Ronaldinho and Deco in the Manchester United midfielder, while El Tri fan Mexico4life believes that Guillermo Ochoa should sign for the Red Devils or AC Milan.

The Rossoneri were mentioned by milanfan19, who also targets a new keeper for the 2007 FIFA Club World Cup winners, with Gigi Buffon as his No1 transfer target.

Saturday sees the launch of our new HYS topic: 'Who will win Ghana 2008?' Be sure to post your comment on what will be the hottest topic of the New Year so far.
