Dinamo Bucharest announced on Sunday that they had parted company with Italian manager Walter Zenga only 80 days after he took over on a two-year contract.

The move was announced on the club's website which added that he would replaced on a caretaker basis by his deputy coach.

Zenga was hired with a view to qualifying Dynamo for the lucrative UEFA Champions League, but they were knocked out of the UEFA Cup by Swedish side Elfsborg and are currently languishing in sixth place in the Romanian first division.

His fate was sealed with the 0-1 defeat to city rivals Steaua on Saturday.

"I am really sad that I did not succeed at Dinamo," the 47-year-old Zenga said. "I believed that we could reach our objectives, but we haven't and that is somethinbg that just happens in football."
