fIn a real turn up for the books, two newly promoted sides are sitting pretty in the top five of Italy's notoriously tough Serie A. One of the high-flying pair are mighty Juventus, currently in second spot, though it is the team lying just three places behind the record title holders who are causing the real stir.

According to readers of FIFA.com, Genoa are this year's biggest surprise packages from Europe's top leagues. In our latest poll, we asked you which underdogs were making most waves so far this season, and 34.52 per cent of you went for the nine-time Scudetto winners. After losing 0-3 to AC Milan on the first day of the season the Rossoblu have gone unbeaten since, claiming 12 points from seven matches and with only Inter Milan (17 pts), Juventus (14 pts), Roma (14 pts) and Fiorentina (13 pts) ahead of them.

Genoa's was not the only impressive start to the season. In the FIFA.com poll they just edged out Manchester City. With former England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson now at the helm, they sit proudly in third place in the Premier League and garnered some 32.51 per cent of the votes. The blue half of Manchester are busy shaking up the established hierarchy in England and, while they may be adrift of Arsenal and Manchester United, they are currently one place ahead of Liverpool and four spots higher than Chelsea.

Germany also featured with 14.89 per cent of users choosing newly promoted Karlsruhe, riding high in second place in the Bundesliga on the heels of big-spending Bayern Munich. Edmund Becker's men are at home to Arminia Bielefeld on Sunday and will be keen to keep up their run of good form. Just behind them in the FIFA.com poll came French outsiders Nancy. Pablo Correa's team are currently second in Ligue 1, level on points with serial title winners Lyon, and came in fourth in the poll with 10.4 per cent.

While the French language version of the site saw Nancy grab 52.35 per cent of the votes and Karlsruhe get 61.54 from the German readership, Manchester City (36.32 per cent) actually finished behind Genoa (40.72 per cent) in the English language voting. The Premiership club can be thankful to our Spanish users, however, who voted for them to the tune of 41.68 per cent.
