Chelsea signed Brazilian international right-back Juliano Belletti for an undisclosed fee from Spanish giants Barcelona on Thursday.
The 31-year-old signed for the English Premier League club after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms. "It's all been a great surprise," Belletti told Chelsea's television station.
"Just yesterday my brother talked with Chelsea, we reached an agreement and so did Chelsea and Barcelona without any problems.
"Everyone's happy, me, Barcelona -- and most importantly Chelsea. I know a bit about what the Premier League is like. I know it's a tough league but I'm coming here with plenty of ambition and desire. I want to win trophies."
Spanish newsapapers said that Belletti would move to Chelsea on a two-year deal worth 5.5 million euros (7.5 million USD).
The deal signals the end of Chelsea's interest in Sevilla defender Daniel Alves, which ran into trouble when the two clubs could not agree a fee.
Belletti joined Barcelona in 2004 from Villarreal.
He scored the winning goal in Barcelona's 2-1 defeat of Arsenal in the 2006 UEFA Champions League final but only made 13 appearances for the Catalan club last season.
He holds an Italian passport and is therefore able to get around restrictions on non-European Union players.
