Bento extends Portugal stay

Paulo Bento has agreed a two-year contract extension to remain as Portugal coach until the end of UEFA EURO 2016. The 44-year-old took charge of the national team in 2010, replacing Carlos Queiroz, and led the team to the semi-finals of EURO 2012, where they lost to eventual winners Spain following a penalty shoot-out.

Bento also guided Portugal to the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™, securing their place in Brazil with a 4-2 aggregate win over Sweden in the qualification play-offs after finishing second behind Russia in Group F.

The former Portugal, Sporting Lisbon and Benfica midfielder said on "I am honoured and hugely proud to continue to serve my country as I have been doing. I've never hidden the fact that I feel very good working with the Portuguese Football Federation."
