Ricardo Goulart scored a hat-trick as Brazilian giants Cruzeiro hammered Universidad de Chile 5-1 in the Copa Libertadores.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder was on form as the Belo Horizonte side quickly recovered from last week's shock defeat to Real Garcilaso of Peru. Cruzeiro pressured Universidad from the first whistle, and got their reward in the 33rd minute when Goulart connected with Dagoberto's cross from the left.

The two switched roles six minutes later with Goulart setting up Dagoberto to make it 2-0. It was 3-0 before half-time when Bruno Rodrigo flicked on Everto Ribeiro's corner for Goulart to last home his second of the night.

Argentinian midfielder Gustavo Lorenzetti reduced the deficit 20 minutes after the break, but it proved only a temporary blip for Cruzeiro, with Goulart completing his hat-trick from a corner in the 83rd minute before Willian bagged the fifth late on. "I'm very, very happy with my performance tonight. It was an inspiring evening," Goulart told Globoesporte.com.

The result levels up the Group 5 standings, with Defensor Sporting of Uruguay, Real Garcilaso, Universidad and Cruzeiro all on three points after two games.

Velez Sarsfield beat Atletico Paranaense 2-0 to take charge of Group 1. The Argentinians claimed their second win in as many games with goals from Fernando Tobio and Lucas Pratto.

Fellow Argentinians Arsenal recorded a convincing 3-0 home win over Venezuela's Deportivo Anzoategui, with all three goals coming from headers as they recorded their first win in Group 8. Julio Furch netted the first goal of the night at the Estadio Julio Grondona from a Matias Sanchez cross in the 15th minute.

Ramiro Carrera added a second in the 43rd minute and things got even worse for the visitors when Anzoategui midfielder Emmanuel Calzadilla was sent off a minute later. Arsenal could have made it 3-0 three minutes after the break but Deportivo Anzoategui Edixxon Gonzalez saved a Milton Caraglio penalty. However, the striker got his goal moments later, profiting from a defensive mistake and scoring after a long ball from Hugo Nervo.

Finally in Porto Alegre, hosts Gremio beat Colombian giants Atletico Nacional 3-0. Luan, Ramiro and Maximilino Rodriguez scored for the Brazilian side who celebrated their second win in two matches.
