Former West Ham United and West Bromwich Albion defender Peter Butler was named coach of Botswana.

The 47-year-old's immediate task will be to prepare for the 2015 CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with the draw in April and the first fixtures the following month.

Botswana reached the Africa finals for the first time in 2012, but have slumped since, leading to the sacking of Stanley Tshosane last year.

It will be the first African post for Butler, who made his playing debut in 1984 and coached from 2000 in England, Australia and south-east Asia.
