French striker Djibril Cisse has signed an 18-month deal with Ligue 1 outfit Bastia.
The 32-year-old international forward had been playing at Kuban Krasnodar in the Russian Premier League since July, but wanted to return to France to better his chances of making the French FIFA World Cup™ squad.
He arrived in Corsica on Tuesday and underwent the traditional medical on Wednesday before being presented to the press. Cisse will wear the No12 shirt and coach Frédéric Hantz wants him to play his first match on 5 January, a French Cup clash against Evian.
Cisse's previous clubs include Auxerre, Liverpool, Marseille, Sunderland and Queens Park Rangers, followed by spells in Qatar and Russia. Bastia, currently 13th in the French top flight, would be his 10th club as a professional.
Cisse, who has played 186 Ligue 1 games scoring 94 goals, returns to France six years after leaving Marseille.
