Premier League new-boys Cardiff City signed Uruguay U-20 defender Maximiliano Amondarain from CA Progreso on Friday.
Amondarain, 20, had a spell on trial with the Bluebirds during the pre-season and impressed manager Malky Mackay enough to secure a four-year contract. A statement on the the club's official website read: "Cardiff City Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Uruguayan U20 international, Maximiliano Amondarain."
The centre-half was part of the Uruguay U-20 squad that finished runners-up to France an the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup Turkey.
In a busy summer for Mackay, who led Cardiff to promotion as Championship winners last season, Amondarain becomes the club's sixth signing, following on from Andreas Cornelius, John Brayford, Simon Moore, Steven Caulker and Gary Medel.
